It’s early morning. Mrs Irina makes the rounds through the Eastern Ukraine's Lysychansk Centre, gently waking the children, getting them ready for breakfast and morning exercise. She oozes warmth and understanding and love – but these aren’t her children. All have been surrendered or removed from their parents, staying at the Centre for up to nine months before entering the foster system, the wards of three very caring matrons who move mountains to provide stability for their wards.
Filmed prior to the current war in Ukraine, Wilmont provides a soft heart and a respectful lens to the children as they make Tik Tok videos, navigate their evolving life situation, and are just kids being kids.
In Ukrainian with English subtitles
