"Y'all wanna hear a story about why me & this bitch here fell out???????? It's kind of long but full of suspenseđđ" â @_zolarmoon
So began the infamous 2015 Twitter thread by AâZiah King, documenting a Floridian overnight odyssey.
Zola (Taylour Paige) strikes up a friendship with Stefani (Riley Keough), who seduces her to join a weekend of dancing and partying in Florida. Though promised lucrative strip clubs, Stefani, her nameless pimp (Colman Domingo), and idiot boyfriend (Nicholas Braun), instead deliver a 48-hour fever dream, in this see-it-to-believe-it tale.
While the vibrant score by Mica Levi (Monos, SWIFFâ20) and dreamscape imagery of Aussie cinematographer Ari Wegner (The Power of the Dog, SWIFFâ22) turn the drama up to eleven, writer/director Janicza Bravo gifts the wild story a lightly poignant touch, sure to make Zola a conversation-piece to match the tweetstorm that broke the internet.
âThe stripper tweetstorm movie youâve been waiting for ⊠A wild candy-colored road saga with piles of style and postmodern flair, told in the key of smartphone.â â Entertainment Weekly
