Christian Petzold (Phoenix – SWIFF’16, Transit – SWIFF’19) boldly reimagines the ancient myth of Undine – a female water spirit who can love a human but must kill him if he’s unfaithful – in this suspenseful tale of romance and betrayal in modern day Berlin.
After instinctively saving industrial diver Christoph (Franz Rogowski, also at SWIFF'22 with Great Freedom) museum historian, Undine (Paula Beer, Never Look Away, SWIFF’19) discovers an intense new love burgeoning between the two, but without time to process the rejection and betrayal of her former love, Undine finds herself at a crossroads.
Interspersed with exquisite underwater scenes, Undine is a poetic romance steeped in German mythology and folklore, with powerful performances from two of Germany’s finest contemporary actors.
