Celebrated auteur director, Céline Sciamma (Portrait of a Lady on Fire, SWIFF'20) reflects on mothers and daughters in this delicate cinematic poem for all ages.
Adjusting to the passing of her beloved grandmother, young Nelly, travels to her grandmother's countryside home so her parents can clear out the house. Without much fun to be had for an 8-year-old, Nelly ventures into the woods, meeting a girl her own age, and building a treehouse. Quickly forming an uncanny bond with the mysterious girl, the two embark on a fantastical journey.
With magical performances from young twin actors Josephine and Gabrielle Sanz, alongside Sciamma’s signature sensitivity, Petite Maman is a journey through childhood, memory, loss, love and acceptance – offering an experience that is timeless and wholly special.
In French with English subtitles.
