With over 20 festival award wins, including the World Cinema Documentary Grand Jury Prize at Sundance, Honeyland is a sumptuous film that will touch hearts and inspire action - an an ode to two endangered and priceless treasures: human decency and the delicate balance of nature.

Deep in the mountainous heart of the Balkans, Hatidze Muratova tends to her elderly mother, and the area's wild bees, in isolation. Farming the honey sustainably, she always leaves the bees their fair share. When new neighbours arrive, Hatidze is welcoming. She bonds with the children, and even teaches the father her rules for beekeeping. But with many mouths to feed, and a taste of modernity, the family threaten everything Hatidze has come to protect.

The filmmakers arrived to Hatidze’s home to make a small nature film, eventually staying three years. They now present to the world something which is part parable for humanity’s relationship to the earth, part portrait of a remarkable woman at the fringe, and part visually striking call to action - and the result is dripping with visual splendour.

“Stunningly beautiful and quietly powerful, this is a portrait of a vanishing way of life and of a determined woman who’s just trying to make her way in the world.”
