Winner of over 15 Best Film awards, lauded filmmaker Ryusuke Hamaguchi (Asako I & II) takes your heart for a spin as he twists a Haruki Murakami short story into an intricate drama of secrets and lies.

Stage actor Yusuke Kafuku, two years on from a personal tragedy laced with resentment, accepts an offer to direct Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya. Forging a new start in Hiroshima, he makes two crucial connections – Kōji, a young actor with whom his path may have already crossed and Misaki, the chauffer who is mandated to drive his car.

Hamaguchi x-rays these characters, each haunted by their past, as he incisively explores ideas of love, desire, infidelity, guilt, and atonement.

“An engrossing and exalting experience.”
