60 years ago, Federico Fellini‘s masterpiece La Dolce Vita cemented its place on the world cinema stage, opening a new flourishing Italian cinema movement known worldwide as ‘Italian neorealism’. The film proved a phenomenon; its banning by the Catholic Church as ‘atheist, Communist and treasonable filth’ made it a cause célèbrea. It went on to take out the Palme D’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1960, and picked up four Oscar noms including director and screenplay, and won for costume design.

Casting a typically critical eye over the world of celebrity, Fellini's epic stands as a towering achievement of 1960s cinema. The episodic narrative follows jaded journalist Marcello Rubini (Mastroianni) as he moves across the Eternal City uncovering gossip on movie stars and other VIPs. The film famously spawned the term 'paparazzo' which came to describe a certain type of relentless celebrity photographer.

Standing beside Federico Fellini’s 8 1/2 as an immortal work of art, La Dolce Vita has it all: the sunglasses, the jazz and rock, the cars, the clothes….and that fountain scene! Experience the newly restored classic as it was meant to be seen.

Join us for morning tea from 10.30am, to celebrate the 100th birthday of Fellini!  Tea/coffee and light refreshments provided
