An intimate and epic journey into the female experience of war, For Sama is told as a cinematic love letter from mother to daughter in the midst of the Syrian Civil War, which rages on right now, today as you read this, detouring its citizens' lives and eroding national order.

Political activist, Waad al-Kateab has used her camera to document five years in her own life, through the Aleppo uprising. From marriage to childbirth, catastrophic conflict is ever rising around her, as Waad is torn between leaving, in search of safety, or continuing in the fight for freedom to which she has already sacrificed so much.

The spades of award wins For Sama has amassed reflects what a true feat of documentary filmmaking it is: savage, immediate, human. A gripping testament to life as a woman, wife and mother in the middle of the 21st century's most brutal war zone.

"Simple in concept and shattering in execution, blending hard-headed reportage with unguarded personal testimony, it’s you-are-there cinema of the most literal order." – Variety
