Locked up on a short stint in an Alabama prison for car theft, Sean (Logan Lerman, Fury) receives a final visit from his terminally-ill mother, Anna. As a last request, she wills Sean to travel to Ireland with his estranged father Frank (an exceptional John Hawkes, The Peanut Butter Falcon, SWIFF’20) to cast her remains across a lake in her ancestral home, north of Dublin. Conflicted between his loyalties to his Mother and emnity to his Father, Sean vows to permanently ex Frank from his life once he's delivered on his promise. Between a disconcerting Irish wake, the surfacing of an old flame, the pick up of a charming hitchhiker, Jewel, and plenty of unresolved issues, the journey becomes a little more than father and son had bargained for.

Elfar Adalsteins' feature debut delivers a nuanced, layered and observant heart to his film - including a joyous impromptu rendition of Ewan McColl's folk ballad, 'Dirty Old Town'. Keeping one step ahead of the expected; from Armbruster’s measured script and Hawkes and Lerman’s simpatico performances, to cinematographer Karl Oskarsson’s work majestically capturing Irish landscapes without resorting to cliché, End Of Sentence will take you places long after the film has finished.

“Beautifully observed, sensitively played and smart enough to wrong-foot audience expectations whenever the plot gets too comfortable.” -The Hollywood Reporter
