A heartbroken heart surgeon seeks therapeutic benefits from a demanding dominatrix in this audacious and darkly comic study of the knife edge between pleasure and pain. Juha (a riveting performance by Pekka Strang, Tom of Finland), is a heart surgeon wracked with guilt over the tragic drowning death of his wife a decade before, left with only his wife’s perfume and a teenage daughter he barely registers. When he stumbles into the lair of the dominatrix Mona (Blade Runner 2049, The Midwife) - a dominatrix whose modus operandi brings a whole new meaning to the notion of suffocating relationships – Juha discovers he craves the punishment as much as Mona craves to punish. The two form an expected bond but it soon becomes increasingly clear that neither Juha nor Mona know how far they are willing to go.

From one of Finland's most daring filmmakers, J-P Valkeapää offers a universal story of everyday, unremarkable people who find each other an underworld of luscious latex, watersports and vivid neon. Proving that all you need is love - and a plastic bag - Dogs Don’t Wear Pants is a dark-edged romantic comedy that challenges the notion that not every shade of grey need be sexy. Just remember your safe word.
